Research Scientist, York University ..... |
Career History Since Graduation |
After graduating I did a postdoctoral fellowship in Richard Staines' lab at the University of Waterloo (Oct 2006 - Dec 2009). Following that I took another postdoctoral fellowship, this time back at York in the labs of Fran Wilkinson and Hugh Wilson (Jan 2010 - Aug 2013). In August 2013 I accepted a position as a full-time Research Scientist in Lauren Sergio's lab, where I happily remain today. |
Most Memorable York University Experience |
I wouldn't know where to start! I first came to York in 1995 as a BSc student in the Biology Program. York has been like home to me since then. I've grown up here on the Keele campus and I've watched it change and grow as well over the last two decades. |
York University Anecdote or Highlight |
I proudly graduated as the very first recipient of a PhD from the School of Kinesiology and Health Science. |
Highlight(s) of Professional Career |
While working on my doctoral degree in Lauren Sergio’s lab at York, I was the first to discover and publish research showing that brain activity differs in men and women during task-directed arm movement. These brain differences are present even when the movements themselves don't differ. These findings have really important clinical implications for diagnosis and rehabilitation after brain damage. Along with Lauren Sergio, I continue to study these differences using functional MRI and a variety of other neuroimaging approaches here at York. |
Honours and Awards |
York entrance scholarships, Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS), NSERC Graduate Scholarship, CIHR and Heart and Stroke Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship, and several travel awards to present research at various conferences through the years. |
