York University Anecdote or Highlight |
1979 When the Board of Governors accepted a proposal from Steve Dranitsaris to present the Charles Saundercook memorial trophy annually, to an athlete in recognition of their outstanding sportsmanship and leadership on their team. My younger brother, Chuck, exemplified this award, named after him. He only lived 17 years and at his death, a family friend donated a trophy to the family and Steve took it from there. Each year, the Saundercooks receive an invitation to attend and present the award to that athlete, and I believe a sibling (Mostly me) has been in attendance each year. The family is grateful for this annual recognition of Chuck, and feels honored to be a part of such a distinguished celebration for these elite athletes from York University! |
