Paul Jones: KINE 2049

KINE 2049: Research Methods in Kinesiology
Distinguished Alumni Lecture by:
Paul Jones
Date:
October 19th, 2016

Paul Jones discussed the “new Canadian” experience of his family and expectations of his parents, well educated in another country, who wanted their children to study here in Canada to become doctors and other professionals in the health care field; parents who didn’t understand that physical education or kinesiology with activity classes could be used as a stepping stone to careers in the health care profession, such as medicine.

Then he discussed his own journey from physical education student and varsity basketball athlete to teacher to middle-school principal, to dabbling with entry level duties at TSN on the side.  All of this, of course, led to his current roles as on-air personality with Raptor radio broadcasts and television broadcaster with Sportsnet.

Following his talk, Paul was mobbed by students who generally told him how much what he had to say resonated with their own family experience and personal aspirations.
